HI,

I'M T.J.

AT 37 YEARS OLD MY LIFE WAS A TOTAL DISASTER.

I wanted to crawl into a corner and die.  I pulled into the Cal-train station and started the long walk home.

I hadn't called my wife yet.  Exhausted from another soul draining day at work, hunched over my laptop in my cubicle.

After 3 long years of 65+ hour workweeks.  3 years of 2+ hour daily commutes and 3 years of putting my dreams on the sidelines in order to help someone else build theirs.

At the end of the day I didn't have anything to show for it.

Not even the job that I had left home with that morning.

Yep, I had gotten laid off.

Even better, they waited until I had finished some of my best work to lay me off.  Ecommerce site redesign done.

15x ROAS for the entire year...

Still didn't help...  I got replaced by the agency I helped train.

I couldn’t think straight.

What was I was going to tell my wife.  How was I going to pay our bills?  How would I feed my family?

I mean, there was  already  too much 'month' left over at the end of the money -- before I lost my job.

What was I going to do now?

As I walked up to the patio of our 2 bedroom Silicon Valley apartment – and I caught a sight of my family through the kitchen window.

My wife.  Trying to wrangle up supper.

My 3 kids coloring.

No one prepared for the bombshell I was about to drop.

As I stood there, I thought –  They – deserved so much better.  How could I put my family in this position.

I was supposed to be building our dream life.  And I couldn’t make it happen.

I felt like a total failure.

I Had no Idea what i was going to do and it freaked me out.

I went to bed that night, with no idea about how we were going to come out on the other side of this situation on top.

And honestly, I felt completely hopeless. I did everything I was supposed to do right?

I was good at my job, definitely top 1-2% in the U.S., how could I have put myself in this situation?

For the first few months, I struggled just to get out of bed. Even the smallest things like taking a shower felt impossible for me.

Eventually I got my head out of my arse and decided to focus on securing the bag.

It took a lot of trying.  It took a lot of work.  It took a lot of luck.

But 2 years later money was no longer my issue.

Thank God for my wife and kids, and their love and support.

But, here's the thing... money didn't solve everything

I could still see the disappointment in my wife's eyes when she looked at me.

For one, I was a shell of the man that she married.

I worked more then ever. I had even less time for the things that were supposed to matter to me.

I put on over 80 lbs. I smoked a pack of cigarettes a day.

And my relationship with my wife?  Let's just say I left a lot to be desired.

I wasn't present.

All the things I had promised her when we got married never really materialized.

We didn't travel.  We didn't own a house.  And sure I worked for myself now, but as much as I wanted to believe it... I wasn't really independent.

Our lives had gone completely off course.  I found myself so busy working and stressing about my 'obligations' that I didn't take the time to live.

In hindsight it was embarrassing.

Then 2 months before my 40th Birthday I'd finally had Enough.

Arguments started to flare up more than usual. All I did was work.

Even more disturbing, my money was even more dependent on the amount of hours I put in.

To make matters worse, even though I had gotten better at my craft and my clients loved me, I had fallen completely out of love with the work I was doing.

And it started to trickle over.

As a freelancer, I had fallen back into the cycle of spending  my time helping other people reach their dreams while paying very little attention to the accomplishment of my own dreams.

I had no assets.  I didn't have anything in the marketplace that generated income for me when I wasn't working.  There was no time off.

Thank GOD my wife was strong enough to call me out on it.

She laid down the law.

"Either I stop wasting time and figure out  what type of man I wanted to be, or suck it up and stop complaining."

Because she was 100% done with those types of conversations.  She told me that if I could figure out how to double my income in less then two years.  If I could figure out how to pay the rent. keep the lights on and thrive on my own, then I could figure this out.

Simply put...enough talk – Now it is time to do.

And you know what.

She was right!

then i tried something different.

It'll work for you too.

In my professional life, I had always found success when I was able to take really big tasks and break them down into smaller more manageable tasks that I could control.

I've always found that If I could control the process and limit the variables, then the outcome was pretty predictable.

In marketing, there are so many variables that you cannot control, but what you can control are the steps that you take to ultimately reach the finish line.

My logic was, "If it worked in business, why wouldn't it work in life."

I like to call this process probability stacking.

Basically focusing on consistently controlling what you can control during a pre-determined amount of time, as long as those actions move the needle in the direction you want to go.

So, taking this same approach I decided to try my process on some of my personal goals.

I knew that the first thing I needed to get clarity on was what it was I actually wanted to do.

What did my dream life actually look like.

What was I willing to sacrifice, but more importantly, what wasn't I willing to sacrifice?

So, I took an internal inventory of my skills, my passions, and the things that truly brought me to life.

During this introspective exercise, I stumbled across a concept called ikigai.

I used ikigai as a basic construct for brainstorming and filled in a spreadsheet with the things that resonated with me the most.

Once I had this information - Next I committed to the process of building a passion based business that put me in the position to separate my money from my time as much as possible.

I felt that this was the one big thing that I could do to help myself make the time for the rest of the things I wanted to accomplish. It didn't happen overnight and it wasn't easy, but it happened.

So taking another queue from my previous life experience I decided to turn it into a challenge with time constraints.

In my professional life we referred to this as a sprint.

I've always looked at sprints as mini challenges to see how much I could get done before the next sprint was supposed to occur.

For my first sprint, I challenge myself to go from idea to functioning business in less then 30-Days.

My focus was on building the framework for the business. I felt that once the framework was in place, the rest was just consistently showing up and doing what i needed to do to move the needle.

I didn't know it at the time, but the reason these time constrained challenges worked so well for me is actually based in science.

Before the challenges, I tried to rely strictly on motivation to reach my goals.

But as I'm sure you all know, at best,  motivation is unreliable.

You won't always feel motivated to do things, even if they are in your best interest.

At worst, motivation is a total myth.

So instead of trying to motivate myself, I thought it best to stack as much probability in my favor as possible and to shift focus to achieving a state of something a little more science-y called Psychological Momentum.

By focusing on just 2 areas,  getting my internal house in order (i.e. actually understanding what makes me happy in life and business) and  identifying micro-commitments I could consistently accomplish, I was able to quickly start stacking up wins, thus creating the momentum I needed to stay focused on pushing through.

Since I've started doing things this way, I wholeheartedly attribute every positive change I have had in my life to this strategy .

My thriving community, my growing audience, my new business, my ability to take control of my health, my newly rekindled relationship with my family.

Everything!

I owe it all of turning big tasks into small tasks, stacking probability in my favor, and reaching a state of psychological momentum.

You want to know the secret to getting anything and everything in life that you want?

the secret to achieving anything in life you want is consistency.

Challenge #1:

Turn your passion into a wildly successful business. Start right now.

Nice Story, but Really, Who Are You?

I hate bios, but if I must...

Devoted husband and father of 3 littles.

Before I started this website I WAS the digital marketing team for a company doing over $600 million in annual revenue.

During that time I turned a $40k marketing investment into we'll over $34 million in annual revenue, I consulted for fortune 100 companies.  I made $15 for every $1.86 I spent on paid advertising, I help send a 3D printer into outer space, and I met some really cool people.

In the end the company I worked for had tons of operational issues and ultimately laid me off shutting their doors for good 7 months later.

From there I became a freelancer and eventually started a marketing agency with a co-founder, and while on paper we seemed to be doing great scaling to over 7 figures in our first 3 years, in my heart I still felt like something was missing.

I wasn't the man I wanted to be.  So a few weeks before my 40th birthday I finally decided to do something about it and started the Legendary Hustle community and dedicated my life to pursuing things that I feel help improve the world, improve myself, and make me feel like I'm really making a difference.

The best part is...we all have the opportunity to do the same thing.

All you have to do is make the decision to do it.

So if you're up to the challenge...let's go!

Challenge #1:
